food allergens – substances of plant and animal origin found in foodstuffs that trigger an allergic reaction after consumption, e.g. cow's milk, eggs, nuts, soya, wheat etc.
Contact allergens – cause an allergic reaction upon contact with the skin, e.g. metals (chromium, nickel), plastics, dyes, fragrances, preservatives
